What does being comforted mean....

Way back......fifty or more years ago, babies were born in hospitals......way before that.....80 or so years ago, babies were born at home.....

When they were born in the hospital, no family was allowed, until well after the baby was born. The mum was "on her own" so to speak, with just the hospital nursing staff, and if needed, they would call the doctor, but usually all was taken care of, before he even came on the scene.

Well, that is how it happened with me, anyway.....
Here I was.....a young mum.....

first time pregnant......

first time giving birth......

first time in hospital......

first time everything.

scared out of my wits.

And it seemed like forever before the baby actually came.....

I desperately needed some comfort, and to be honest, God was not on my mind.....
Oh, the pain.....and it kept on coming, the next one worse than the one before.

Then, just when I thought I could take it no more, one of the nurses came up to where I could see her, she took my hand......and held it and squeezed it every so often.

Comfort comes in many forms.

I can remember her doing that....as if it was yesterday!

The Bible tells us in John 16 v 21: Jesus speaking, and He should know...
"A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world."

And it is true......the pain IS forgotten, but.......the comfort that nurse gave me is not.....

I pray, every night, that someone..... somewhere, is comforted....I know I needed it then.....

It does not mean they need to be hugged, ( although that is good, I do a lot of it) but just sitting with some one and holding their hand......

or giving them a smile?

or a friendly nod?

There are all kinds of ways to give comfort.

I am thankful that God gave that nurse the incentive to do what she did....
Listen to your inner self and do the same....it works
Blessings
Yaddy
