The city of Jericho

I have often wondered about the city of Jericho, and how large it was and how long it would have taken the Israelis to walk around it 7 times on the 7th day.
So I thought I'd check it out.
Here's some of what I found.

"Within the upper wall was an area of approximately six acres, while the total area of the upper city and fortification system was 50% larger, or about nine acres." (So it was do-able to walk around it)

Based on the archaeologist’s rule of thumb of 200 persons per acre, the population of the upper city would have been about 1,200. However, from excavations carried out by a German team in the first decade of this century, we know that people were also living on the embankment between the upper and lower city walls. In addition, those Canaanites living in surrounding villages would have fled to Jericho for safety. Thus, we can assume that there were several thousand people inside the walls when the Israelites came against the city.

The people must have thought it funny though to have to march around the city once a day, for 7 days, then 7 times on the 7th day.

It is quite interesting to read see here

The tower of Babel.....a one world government,

The story of the tower of Babel. (a one world government, not yet in God's plan.)

Genesis 11 v 1 - 10

"Now the whole earth used the same language and the same words.
2 It came about as they journeyed east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there.

3 They said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and burn them thoroughly.” And they used brick for stone, and they used tar for mortar.

4 They said, “Come, let us build for ourselves a city, and a tower whose top will reach into heaven, and let us make for ourselves a name, otherwise we will be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”

5 The Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.

6 The Lord said, “Behold, they are one people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them.

7 Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.”

8 So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of the whole earth; and they stopped building the city.

9 Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of the whole earth; and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of the whole earth."

God saw what they wanted to do, (and as the Bible also tells us that man is inherently evil) so when God said,

in Verse 6: ““Behold, they are one people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them.” So, God knew then, and knows now, that a One World government is not “for good” God knows what is in man's heart.

If we had a one world government, I can only go back to Hitler and world war1, he wanted to rule the world.
What do you think would have happened, if all the other countries had not been able to combine and war against him and so set the world free again. That was why God scattered the people.

God knew and could see what would happen.

We have inherited the “want to sin”.

Satan wanted to rule. He got the first humans to sin, and as such he was on his way.

We do not have to be taught to be bad and naughty!

I don't have to tell my children that I am going to show them, and teach them, how to be naughty and how to throw a tantrum. They are quite good at doing all that, without being taught. I have to teach them, how to be good, and kind and forgiving....and that they need the Lord Jesus to help them do that.

Right now, satan is doing his utmost best to make a one world government come, and get himself, through humans, to rule and he can then say, as he did in Isaiah 14 v12 – 16:

13For thou hast said in thine heart,

"I will ascend into heaven,

I will exalt my throne above the stars of God:

I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High."

Satan's sin was pride and rebellion against God.  Satan wanted to put himself in the place of God as he said, "I will be like the most High".

For all intents and purposes he is well on the way to getting his wish,

but not before, as we read in 2Thessalonians 2:6:"And you know what restrains him now,so that in his time he may be revealed.
The restrainer has to be gone, before he gets his wish.

I pray that you know the Lord Jesus and are part of His family.
