We read in the Old Testament: the book of 1 kings 13 v 1 & 2: "And, behold, there came a man of God out of Judah by the word of Jehovah unto Beth-el: and Jeroboam was standing by the altar to burn incense. 2 And he cried against the altar by the word of Jehovah, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith Jehovah: Behold, a son shall be born unto the house of David, Josiah by name; and upon thee shall he sacrifice the priests of the high places that burn incense upon thee, and men’s bones shall they burn upon thee." ’ ( The man of God spoke to the altar, verse 2... while Jeroboam was standing there....God was so upset with him, he did not want to speak to him so “the man of God” spoke to the altar)”
This was told Jeroboam approx. 920 BC
300 years later: 2 Kings 13 v 15:16: “Furthermore, the altar that was at Bethel and the high place which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin, had made, even that altar and the high place he broke down. Then he Josiah demolished its stones, ground them to dust, and burned the Asherah.
16 Now when Josiah turned, he saw the graves that were there on the mountain, and he sent and took the bones from the graves and burned them on the altar and defiled it according to the word of the LORD which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these things.”
Then in...... Isaiah 44 God says:
"Surely he cuts cedars for himself, and takes a cypress or an oak and raises it for himself among the trees of the forest. He plants a fir, and the rain makes it grow.
15 Then it becomes something for a man to burn, so he takes one of them and warms himself; he also makes a fire to bake bread. He also makes a god and worships it; he makes it a graven image and falls down before it.
16 Half of it he burns in the fire; over this half he eats meat as he roasts a roast and is satisfied. He also warms himself and says, “Aha! I am warm, I have seen the fire.”
17 But the rest of it he makes into a god, his graven image. He falls down before it and worships; he also prays to it and says, “Deliver me, for you are my god.”
It sounds to me like God is being sarcastic here.....watching what men are doing.... cutting a tree which he has planted, using half to cook on and keep him warm and the other half he cuts an image, and worships it and says this is my god!
So God shows Himself by predicting 150 years ahead of time in the next chapter what He is going to do!
Then, in Isiah 45: " Thus saith Jehovah to his anointed, to Cyrus,(God said this 200 years before Cyrus was born...he was the the powerful king of Persia (559–529 b.c.) who released the Jewish captives to return to Jerusalem after he had made the Persians the dominant nation in the ancient world..)
whose right hand I have taken, to subdue nations before him, and I will loose the loins of kings; to open the doors before him, and the gates shall not be shut:
2 I will go before thee, and make the rough places smooth; I will break in pieces the doors of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron;
3 and I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that it is I, Jehovah, who call thee by thy name, even the God of Israel.
4 For Jacob my servant’s sake, and Israel my chosen, I have called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.
5 I am Jehovah, and there is none else; besides me there is no God. I will gird thee, though thou hast not known me;
6 that they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none besides me: I am Jehovah, and there is none else.
7 I form the light, and create darkness; I make peace, and create evil; I am Jehovah, that doeth all these things.
God truly is the all knowing all powerful GOD
P.S. I have been away for a couple of weeks, travelled 2500km's and God was truly with me, keeping me safe, and bringing me safely back home...
